Turkic Wikimedia Conference | Branding

Turkic Wikimedia Conference is an annual gathering of Wikimedians and supporters of Wikimedia projects in Turkic languages. The conference aims to bring together all the people who work on Wikimedia projects and support the development of projects and the Wikimedia Movement on a local and global level. Today, more than 200 million people speak Turkic languages, and the geography of the speakers unites Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Iran, Central Asia, China, and Russia. On this basis, the development and support of communities of Turkic-speaking Wikimedians are critical.
Symbol consists of people holding hands and united, inspired by the Orkhon Alphabet. These people holding hands represent the conference where participants from the Turkic world and surrounding communities unite for a common goal and interest.
The conference was held for the first time in 2012 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The second one was held in Istanbul, Türkiye, in 2023. A localized conference design was created for the Istanbul conference.
Mascots designed with inspiration from Central Asian and Ottoman traditional clothing helped the participants throughout the conference, increasing their sense of belonging and enjoyment.
The localized design work was inspired by "Iznik Tiles", also known as Turkish tiles. Thus, traditional Turkish tile making was introduced.
