The future is unpredictable

Therefore, we should build buildings that are flexible, can be transformed over time, and are designed to accommodate new, as yet unknown, purposes. The era of rigid construction systems and purposes is over!

We propose the parking facility of the future as a structure made of wood. A rational, vibrant parking facility built to adapt to the functions that the future demands. By incorporating flexibility from the outset, we create a parking facility that is also economically, socially, and resource-wise sustainable in the long run.

Replacing the concrete construction system with a simple column/beam system in wood allows us to incorporate a flexible building from the start, one that can evolve over time.
Extra ceiling height in the top floor and the inclusion of flexible, detachable floors make the building capable of accommodating the programs that the future may require.

COMMUNITY HUB / Our cities lack local production. The new parking garage has the potential to become the area's Community HUB. Small production companies such as shared workshops, cider production, and creative communities will benefit from the deep ground floor space for storage and production inside and outward-facing functions towards the streets.
Smaller production and creative businesses occupy the roof of the parking facility. Here, with a more temporary character and lower rent, to promote diversity, synergy, and urban life.

CITY FOREST / The parking garage's facade mimics trees and is adorned with vines and climbing plants. On the roof, an elliptical-shaped city forest creates a green gathering space bordered by a wooden deck that connects the functions of the roof.

A HOUSE WITH A FUTURE
It is our hope that the last parking garage in Ørestad becomes a house with a future. Where a higher initial expenditure leads to long-term profitability and where the resource-related "economy" of materials is treated with the same seriousness as the construction cost.

For the sake of our future.
