Ghost Lab X, a two week design +build workshop presented by MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects in Nova Scotia, focused on the construction of a min/max house.
The house prototype embodies both the idea of minimum and maximum simultaneously. Two simple structures extends the maximum width of the site. The captured landscape becomes an interstitial, 1000’ long ‘courtyard’ space, charged with potential. The structures were made with minimal means and will have minimal impact on the land. One structure was for sleeping (night) and one for living (day). Anchoring both ends of the site, this modest building gains strength by engaging the larger environment.
