Tomb Raider : The angel of Darkness

Project did in 2021.

The first image you see is the final image rendered with post-production. To arrive here I had to go through a whole process, while discovering and learning new things.
I am a huge fan of Lara Croft and the Tomb Raider games. When I was a kid I would play The angel of Darkness on my father's computer, even though I wouldn't understand anything I was just thrilled to play this game. And one of my goals while learning to model in 3D was to reproduce my favorite retro games characters realistically.
My first ever realistic-like character is Lara Croft.
I tried to be as close as the original design, but I also tried to bring a little bit of the recent Lara into her.
This model wasn't made for animation, I only sculpted her bust, still, she was sculpted in order to be rotated or to be seen from different angles/point of views.
This render is the beauty with a little bit of post-production.

I first sculpted in Zbrush, simultaneously working the retopology in Maya. Since it only needed shaders, I didn't work any texture maps, except for the Ambient Occlusion, Displacement and Normale maps that I got out of Zbrush.
One of the goals with this exercise was to learn how to use Arnold Renderer, as well as xGen. I went through a lot of youtube tutorials to help me with this character, it was a very fun experience!
I really tried to do her famous Angel of Darkness braid, and with handsight I can definitely see what works and what doesn't with her hair.

What this project also taught me is that, even if I am fascinated by realistic characters, this is not what I prefer modeling. I really really loved working on this, and I guess that sometimes I'll go back into modeling realistic characters just for fun, or to experiment.
I am grateful for this project because I learnt a lot.
Thank you if you read this far, or even if you just looked at this project!
