About the Series:

In this series, I decided to do Fashion Photography. I was inspired by artist Richard Avedon who spent lots of time photographing, in studio with a light-coloured background. Being a famous fashion photographer in the mid- 1900’s, Richard’s photographs are in black & white. Using the light-coloured background helped bring out the contrast between the backdrop & the model, seen in the photographs below.
I chose this style because I found it looked very modern. I had my model wear some business attire, along with some jeans & a casual black shirt. Both outfits give a modern look but also will create contrast when putting the pictures in black & white like I had planned. I am extremely happy with the final results.
What I have learnt throughout this project is how to position a model during an indoor shoot, how to properly use studio lighting (soft box) & I was able to get more confident behind my camera. What helped me find ways to position my model was Pinterest. By looking at all different kinds of in studio poses, I had created a vision of which I wanted to recreate. I was able to pick out a few of my favourites which led me to going into the shoot with a plan. I knew exactly what I was looking for & I find that it helped me with my confidence while being behind the camera. I definitely enjoyed this project & I am looking forward to our next practical.
