Street Photography Series - Lived In
About the Series

In this series, I wanted to capture the feeling of lived-in streets, places with people, for people. This series was photographed in the Bank Street area. Not far from this is Parliament and all the surrounding streets lined with office buildings. These streets are often pristine, empty, quiet, and utterly lifeless. The area I shot in however is bustling with life, and signs of life. The streets feel lived in because they are. The wear on the buildings, the graffiti, and the street art, make it impossible to miss, even if no one was there. It’s this feeling that I’ve tried to capture in this series, in juxtaposition to other urban and suburban areas.
Why I Decided to Do This Series

I grew up and still live in a suburban area, the type that is notoriously devoid of any feelings of life. I think that is why I find myself appreciating the idea of "lived-in" spaces, the little things that tell you your surroundings have been touched by other people. I wanted to capture that appreciation in this series.
What I learned

Through the course of shooting this series, I learned that I shouldn’t be afraid to go out and shoot. Confidence is key to getting good shots on the street, mainly when you’re standing in the middle of the sidewalk. Also, Walking the streets with a camera in hand and your head on a swivel is a great way to improve your photographic eye and hone your skills.
