FLOOR MOSAIC FOR THE NINGYO MOVIE
This is a huge mosaic pattern I made for the short called 'The Ningyo'. A noir-Indiana-Fin-de-siècle-period-movie about Cryptozoology by promising creators Miguel Ortega and Tran Ma. Besides the joy of being in a fabelous team, I had a great set of projects to design – an adventure in itself.
One of them was a floor in a university's lecture hall, where the movie begins with a slide show about mythical creatures...
Here is a short breakdown of the mosaic. Hope you like it.

REFERENCES
(from upper left) – Rembrandt’s 1652 etching of a man gazing at a mysterious bright light. Referred to as first as,
'The Practicing Alchemist' in 1679, and then later as 'Faust in his Study'. There is a lot to say about this, but not here.
Mosaics (tesserae) are an ancient decoration technique for floors, walls and even furniture with a broad diversity in styles and meanings. It was always expensive as it involved both artism, craftsmanship, patience and mostly good materials.
