Explainer Video: Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

SCRIPT
For the uninformed, obsessive-compulsive disorder, or simply OCD, is viewed only as concerning oneself over the sanitation of their personal surroundings, leading them to change and alter things around them until they are sure every minute flaw is settled. However, a more in-depth explanation will provide greater information than this.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder is defined by recurring, intrusive, and often unwanted thoughts and temptations that a person will feel forced to carry out. These types of actions can interfere with their daily life and cause a considerable loss of time as they feel compelled to indulge in or perform these actions.

Other related disorders such as trichotillomania, compulsive hoarding, and dysmorphophobia can contribute to distorting a person’s perception of themselves to the extent that they may no longer feel familiar with who they are or their surroundings. This can lead to attempts to fix these perceived shortcomings by pouring all of their efforts into resolving them to the best of their abilities.

BREAKDOWN
This project was among the first major animation projects I was tasked with during my undergraduate years, and it served as a means to helping me better understand the software and techniques of animation, as well as creating animation-potent character designs. With the previous, older version to use as a basis, the design and animation processes were much smoother as I was able to rely on my software knowledge and previous experiences to help streamline the creation process.

Final Updated Video:
Deciding on the mental disorder to discuss was the simplest step, as obsessive-compulsive disorder is often a simplified and misunderstood ailment, only being dismissed as concerning yourself over the cleanliness of your personal environment. My piece exists only to offer a more detailed explanation of what OCD actually is, and help those who are not aware come away with a better understanding of the disorder.

Some key differences are the lack of a 3D object replaced by a 2D illustration and the script being more verbose in order to better convey my points, something my original version did not do as well. As this is a remake of an older project, I wanted to take every opportunity I could to improve on where I previously left off. There are still many aspects and forms of my animation that I want to take further, but as of now I believe that redoing this project helped maintain what I have developed thus far.

I aim to incorporate not just what I have learned from remaking this into both new and remade projects, but also work on what needs the most focus: animation and character designs.
