NUMIS VAULT's aim is to address the challenges faced by coin collectors. The goal is to create a secure and user-friendly solution that enables collectors to safely bring their coin collections together. Many collectors hesitate to share their coins due to concerns about potential damage or loss. The main objective of NUMIS VAULT is to develop a successful product that not only securely stores coins but also allows users to showcase them with ease, eliminating worries about damage or loss. This objective was achieved through extensive design testing and physical prototyping.
PART I: INVESTIGATION
Coin dimensions data
Data on coin dimensions was gathered from various coins worldwide, considering diameters ranging from 1.99mm to 31mm, with a median size of 21.5mm. This information pertains to the physical dimensions of coins globally, rather than the preferences of collectors. To ensure versatility in accommodating different coin sizes, custom cases were designed with a maximum diameter of 30mm.

Interactive storage unit designsThese are preliminary, rough sketches aimed at exploring unique forms and shapes for a vault or storage unit that not only securely holds coins but also transforms the way collectors engage with their collections. These designs are a creative exercise in envisioning innovative solutions, sparking a dialogue between functionality, aesthetics, and user interaction.

Informed by extensive Reddit insights, a clear preference for secure coin storage over mere display surfaced. This push towards heightened safety measures redirected the design focus of Numis Vault, leading to the incorporation of a vault-like structure. This evolution responds to the collective concern among coin enthusiasts for safeguarding their valuable collections, reinforcing Numis Vault's commitment to providing not just a showcase but a secure haven for cherished coins
PROJECT TARGET
For years, coin collectors have stored their cherished collections in traditional methods like albums, boxes, tubes, and more. Sadly, this has limited the ability to share their treasures with friends, family, and the wider public, contributing to a decline in the interest of coin collecting. The challenge at hand is to understand these limitations, develop an innovative solution, and create a product that is not only secure but also encourages easy sharing among collectors. The essence of this project is to provide a secure, accessible, and user-friendly way to store and showcase coin collections.
To summarise , the problems that are to be solved are: Hybrid Problems (physical and phycological problems).
This is because Coin collectors have traditionally stored their coins in ways that limit sharing with family and friends due to concerns about damage or loss, contributing to the waning interest in coin collecting. The project aims to develop a creative solution that enhances coin visibility and security while enabling easy sharing.

CONCEPT DESCRIPTION: ROLO SNAPS
The inspiration behind "ROLO SNAPS" was to breathe new life into a classic product, the Rolodex, by merging it with the convenience of coin snaps. This innovative concept not only ensures the security of the collector's coins but also enables effortless browsing. As an additional dimension, it introduces a source of entertainment and engagement, making it a unique and engaging solution.
CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT: Coin Case Evolution
Transitioning from the Rolodex concept to a more robust and secure coin case design, recognized that the Rolodex with snaps presented limitations due to its structure. The shift to a coin case offers several advantages. It provides increased storage capacity, making it more practical for collectors on the move. Furthermore, the adaptability of this case design ensures the swift and secure archiving of coins, meeting the evolving needs of numismatic enthusiasts.
PART III: Service Development
The NUMIS VAULT App is at the forefront of service development, seamlessly merging cutting-edge technology with the timeless world of coin collecting. By offering a user-friendly interface and a wealth of features, this app empowers collectors to securely manage their prized collections and engage with like-minded enthusiasts. From live coin scanning to educational tutorials, it transforms the traditional hobby into a modern, user-centric experience. NUMIS VAULT's commitment to service development shines through every screen, ensuring users can effortlessly navigate and enjoy their coin collecting journey.
PART IV: Materialisation & Visualisation
The NUMIS VAULT project was initiated to address the concerns of coin collectors who sought a secure and convenient means of storing and showcasing their collections. The project's journey began with extensive research and ideation, exploring various concepts from holographic displays to secure vaults, ultimately converging on a modular, user-friendly, and secure coin storage solution. Through a series of prototypes, challenges such as coin slot design and access mechanisms were tackled, leading to the development of a product that facilitates easy coin collection management.
NUMIS VAULT offers collectors the ability to input and archive their coins with a single push of a button, with the convenience of wireless connectivity via Bluetooth. As the project advances, attention is directed toward material selection, favouring polypropylene for cost-effective batch production, and consideration of injection moulding as the preferred manufacturing method to meet the demands of coin collectors efficiently. The project culminates in NUMIS VAULT, a secure and user-friendly product that empowers coin collectors to organize, archive, and explore their cherished collections with confidence.
PART V: Mock-up Model & Presentation
In the final stages of the NUMIS VAULT project, an intricate mock-up model was meticulously fashioned to demonstrate the practical implementation of the concept. This full-scale model featured a robust MDF jig as its core structure, with precision-cut corners achieved through the use of advanced milling machinery and bandsaws. The top and bottom sections were expertly vacuum-formed, adding a polished and professional finish to the mock-up. A combination of laser-cut and 3D-printed components ensured that the model accurately represented the proposed product design. Notably, the custom coin cases were crafted from real baggies, each precision-cut using a laser-cut jig for consistency.
The presentation of the NUMIS VAULT project took place at the university, and it was complemented by the mock-up model. The project book, a comprehensive repository of technical drawings and documentation covering over 16 iterations of prototypes, was a key feature. Accompanied by an informative banner, this ensemble provided a thorough overview of the project's development journey. This presentation at the university marked a significant milestone, effectively showcasing the depth and progress of the NUMIS VAULT project, as it neared the realization of its innovative concept.
