1.BACKGROUND RESEARCH
When we think of masks, we think of carnivals, African tribal rituals or death masks, theater, films, and fashion – cosplay, identity transformation, veiling and protection. The mask is one of the richest and most controversial stories in the world, with considerable historical roots in fine art.
Masks are divided into physical masks and symbolic masks, which are ubiquitous in both the real and virtual worlds. We encounter masks in various forms that are used to change the normative gender roles of society. Cultural fields and masks used for ceremonial, spiritual or carnival programs.
In the early days of human beings, masks were a hunting tool, a way to confuse prey, such as some primitive tribes in Africa, would make a mask that was one person tall, and when facing some fierce predators, it would make the other party fearful, even fearful.
This may be the reason why masks were thought to have some kind of mystical power in the first place, people only observed the natural fear of large face-shaped things, but did not understand the principle, and attributed it to supernatural forces.
As a result, masks were naturally given supernatural colors and gradually became a tool for prehistoric humans to communicate with ghosts and gods. They portrayed the image of what they thought were ghosts and gods on masks, which were then worn and interpreted by shamans to educate the people. Because of this worship of supernatural powers, the image of the mask has gradually departed from the concrete image of reality, and has begun to change towards a grotesque, weird, and exaggerated image.
In prehistoric society, the "gods" in primitive worship, that is, the shaman group, have always had extraordinary power in the process of historical development, and masks, which are naturally mysterious props, have also become a symbol of status, very typical such as Egyptian pharaohs, Sanxingdui gold masks, Aztec masks and so on…
2.NARRATIVE FRAMEWORK
A few years later, the earth, due to a country's extremely irresponsible environmental pollution behavior, the world's environmental pollution is serious. Radiation rays and fallout cause irreversible damage to human genes. A mask was developed for both radiation rays and radiation dust protection. I choose the environment theme. 3.CONCEPT
The appearance is inspired by Soviet gas masks, the sculpture of broken DNA strands in the left eye means the harm caused by radiation, and the teardrops in the right eye are both the tears shed by humans for themselves and the destruction of the natural environment.
