This series illustrates the complex relationships that unite human beings. We are social beings, we need others to survive and thrive. Human relationships are fundamental to our emotional and physical well-being, and we are instinctively drawn to others. But what will remain of all this once we leave this world ? Will all these connections we have created throughout our lives also disappear ? or is it precisely thanks to them that we will continue to live through others ? The memories of these unforgettable moments, of these passions experienced, of these shared stories, of this love that we gave and received in return are timeless links forever engraved in the collective memory. So when your time comes, ask yourself: what will you choose to leave behind ?
Basically, this series was designed so that each piece could stand on its own, but months after their creation, I realized that each of these fragments were part of something bigger, of a more universal story. So I tried to put the pieces of the puzzle together and find the words for what I was trying to express.
VENUS
VENUS portrays self-love, selfish love and the cruel emotional lack it creates. This woman, young in appearance and covered in jewelry and regalia, is nevertheless completely empty inside herself, and even if she seems to radiate with a thousand lights through her countless reflections, she looks terribly alone and sad.
VESTIGES
VESTIGES portrays ephemeral loves, plural loves, those which do not fulfill us emotionally, but soothe us succinctly and satisfy our physical needs while we continue our frenzied search for a soul mate.
MOTHER
MOTHER portrays the pure love of a mom for her offspring and this incredible simplicity in unconditionally loving a being born in her womb no matter what he looks like. It is the story of the human adventure. Most animals have very little connection with their descendants. Very often when they are old enough to provide for themselves, they are abandoned.
REMNANTS
REMNANTS portrays model love, idyllic love, the kind that only exists in tales and in the fantasies of some. It is the myth of perfect love and unwavering fidelity. These two beings look far in the same direction and their two bodies soon become one.
LEFTOVERS
LEFTOVERS tells us about separation, about disunited love. When one of the two beings leaves and never comes back again. The indelible pain and the void that this abandonment leaves on these gaping wounds that will never truly heal. All that remains is the memory of the loved one.
EXHIBITION
I had the chance to present this series at 2 prestigious exhibitions. One in Paris with the 1703 collective and the other in New York with Chamonix Vision.
