UAL Extended Diploma Second Year FMP (Noble Nectar)
This project was for the Final Major Project of my second year on a Level 3 UAL Extended Diploma course. The brief that was set offered full creative freedom, allowing us to design whatever we could come up with. I decided to design a corporate identity for a small honey company. My inspiration for the project came from my grandads bee hive, as it gave me the idea to design a business based around honey. I wanted to design a logo and three pieces of packaging for the brand as well as three posters to advertise the company.
I started off by designing packaging for honey, mead, and a beeswax candle, as I wanted to have a small range of products in the hypothetical business. I designed the logo in illustrator using hexagonal shapes to mimic the the honeycomb in a beehive, and used a yellow and black colour scheme to represent honey bees.
Shown above is the first poster in the collection of three. I was experimenting a lot with halftone effect and really wanted to make the poster stand out with bold colours. The aim with this poster was to make it look like a screen print which I think I achieved well. I also added lots of noise to the poster to give it a grainy effect. This is my favourite poster out of the three and maybe even my favourite poster I've designed so far since starting my journey in studying graphic design.
This is the second poster in the collection and I decided to go with a different approach to the design. I kept with the halftone effect on the image at the top, however I made the logo the overall focus of the poster instead of an image. I feel like this poster portrays the brand well and it sticks with the colour scheme and shows the products offered by the company.
This is the third and final poster in the collection. I kept this design similar in style to the second poster, however changed up the layout and main focus. I used some distorted images of bees which I made in the experimental stage of the project when I was playing around with photocopier distortion. I kept the halftone effect on these images but made the dot size bigger to get a more grainy effect. I feel as though this poster has a good balance between image and type when it comes to the main focus of the design, but is still bold enough to stand out.
