After finishing my Phobia series, Maturing was created to represent overcoming anxiety and beginning a journey of personal growth. In 2022, Maturing received a Regional Gold Key and a National Silver Medal from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

Using a Canon EOS 50D, I captured my side profile using a self-timer. In Adobe Photoshop, I removed the background and backside of my head using the masking tool. On a separate layer, I masked a flower bouquet to fit within the parameters of my silhouette and appear as if flowers were growing from my brain. Finally, I adjusted the colors of my skin and the flowers to a lighter palette of oranges, pinks, and greens.
