''Sielatis'' - illustration series about Soul

Sielatis

Bachelor's final art project, 2023

''Sielatis'' is a series of 12 watercolour illustrations, 5 videos and soundtrack. This project is an analysis of the soul, experience of person’s uniqueness, his search of material and non-material parts of himself. Soul has always been such an abstract being. And it’s no surprise that humans are visual learners. So what would happen if the soul was given a body, form, colour and meaning?

Illustrations are based on three philosopher's descriptions of the soul - Plato, who believed that the soul is immortal and can exist without human's body, Descartes - who described human brain as ''the seat of the Soul'', and Democritus - who said that soul is like a round atom, that floats around us in the air and that can be seen only when light shines on it.
