Translations is an installation work made with Charlotta Öberg.
The work explores the fragility in translating in between languages - what gets lost when we translate something.
We embroidered the poem made in English, Swedish and Tagalog.
The poem on the fabric sculpture:
Theres a fragility in translation
That creates a space between native tongues
A language that is passed down from us
We carry & take pride in
It is natal to us, as we are lost in other worlds
Where the candle light glistens
Where we wipe our sticky fingers on a cold beer
Where the symphony of motor bikes & cars are prominent
Where we tasted yum mama
Here we come together
For the immersion of differences
And the bridge of emotions
There’s a fragility in translation
Som skapar ett rum emellan modersmalstungor
isang wikang ipinamana sa atin
We carry & take pride in
Naturligt, for vi ar vilse i andra världar
Where the candle light glistens
Where we wipe our sticky fingers on a cold beer
Where the symphony of motor bikes & cars are prominent
Where we tasted yum mama
Dito tayo magkakasama
For the immersion of differences
Och en bro av känslor
