New Ming Dragon Collection Auth. Paradisiartificiali Design Studio with: Zhang Xin a.k.a. Octopus zx with: Fabrizio Ciuffatelli --------------------------------------- Historically, Meissen was the first manufactory in the Western World to make porcelain (in 1710). Previously, only legends circulated about this workmanship, as was also the case with silk, because no one in the Western World could understand how it could possibly be made. Then, thanks to the efforts of men who were part scientists and part wizards, the secret procedure was unveiled, long time ago in the heart of Meissen city. The collection we have composed features the subject of the Dragon (an archetype that also returns in the iconography of the Meissen catalogue and that they call the Ming Dragon). We wanted to recuperate this suggestive creature to propose a historicist concept. The concept works on two levels: NARRATIVE – We imagined a fairy tale in which the Ming Dragon becomes the transfiguration of a rich China that is unassailable to all, all except Meissen! FORMAL – in the wake of tradition, we recuperated the classic Reticular border. At that point, we imagined that the Reticular was the transfiguration of the Dragon's shape. ------------------------------------ Our special thanks go to: Paolo Alborghetti, Patrizio Mozzicafreddo, Alessandro Sins Peccati.
