Meritage PC: World's First Convertible Tablet PC

Way back in 2001 when we created this concept, no one had ever sqiveled a large TFT screen; just the small 3" screens then found on camcorders.  So we engineered and fabricated a custom swivel hinge that was strong enough to swivel a 15" LCD display.
In 2001, Microsoft was promoting the slate style tablet.  We brought this concept to COMDEX that year and blew everyone away, with a hybrid idea that you could have your notebook PC and your tablet too, all in one form factor.  The concept was on the cover of PC Magazine and appeared in Popular Science as the first convertible tablet PC concept.
The Meritage PC when its pedestal docking station converts into a full size PC.  Way back in 2001, 15" monitors were considered big for a desktop.
We also designed the first swivel screen monitor stand.  Of course there wasn't software yet that would allow you to swivel the screen so we had to design that too...
Cord management has always been a problem so we designed in a retractible powercord into the Meritage's pedestal docking station.
For fun and to show how this new convertible tablet PC concept could adapt to your daily lifestyle, we produced this promotional video.
