Plant-based Watercolor Paints

Historic conservation is a crucial aspect of preserving our cultural heritage.
One effective approach to conservation is through the use of natural-based paints.
These paints, often made from organic materials such as plant extracts, minerals, and earth pigments, offer numerous benefits in terms of authenticity, sustainability, and environmental friendliness.
The NatDyes™ Program of the Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) has engaged in a contract research partnership with the
National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP).
This collaboration aims to develop plant-based pigments in formulating watercolor paints to promote sustainable and environmentally friendly practices in the conservation of our cultural heritage.
With the intersection of art and science, the Project Team magnifies the importance of visual aesthetics in scientific communication, effectively engaging the general public and fostering a greater appreciation for scientific knowledge.
