    "Artist at Play" was created for the Work+Play show at the Land Gallery in Portland, as part of ICON 8, the Illustration Conference. I chose to take a personal approach, because at its best moments illustration *is* how I play. This image is a mashup of some of my favorite subject matter. Ink drawing on bristol, scanned and colored digitally in Photoshop. Read Less

In-progress on my drawing table. The blue pencil lines are easier to remove digitally from the scan than erasing a bunch of graphite and risking smudges. (You can also see which parts of the drawing gave me the most trouble by how much blue there is... even after a couple rounds of increasingly refined sketches!)
Gratuitous self-portrait. And yes, that really is my drawing table and I love it. And yes, those are my cats, ditto. No comment on the other critters....
