Factory 57 Cigars

Factory 57 is a part of the K.A. Kendall / 7-20-4 line of fine cigars. The project is conceptually based on the history of the 7-20-4 cigar factory originally established in 1906 and closed it's doors in 1963. The inspiration for the package design is taken from the Art Nouveaux era which was predominant between 1890-1910. As the project progressed the owner who is an avid collector of cigar ephemera decided he wanted to use an original tin sign that advertised the 7-20-4 cigar. Displayed here is the progression of the project from beginning to the final mock-up. (I'll update with the actual finished product soon!)
Prliminary Logo Studies:
The final Factory 57 logo chosen was inspired by the era-appropriate art at the Hoover Dam, which provided a more masculine feel.
As we progressed, owner Kurt Kendall felt inspired by one of his beloved pieces of original 7-20-4 ephemera - this tin sign:
However, all I had to work with was an iPhone photo of the sign which presented a few challenges. The curls of the red "shield" interupted the illustration and were photoshopped out and reworked by hand to flow around an oval cut out of the factory workers. The "R.G. Sullivan" was also reworked into "K.A. Kendall".

This is the resulting image for the inside lid of the cigar box:
The other component of the project was the cigar band. These are preliminary designs progressing to the final design:
