And now an exquisite Chinese porcelain collector’s piece: a hand painted basin from the Ming dynasty, dated 1590.
The upper rim is trimmed in yellow. It bears figures of birds perched on branches, framed in red and black rectangles that alternate with floral designs of bouquets and fruit against a white background.
The bottom rim is clad in a geometric design crafted in burgundy and gold leaf. It has gold-leaf ferrules under the rim below the yellow trim, as well as on the base.
