RESTRUCTURING [YOUTH PARK]-[SEBES ROMANIA]

A short history of Sebes - Romania

It is believed that there has been an earlier rural settlement in this area, with Romanian and Pecheneg population, situated east of today's city. But the city itself was built by German settlers - later referred as Transylvanian Saxons, but actually originating from the region of Rhine and Moselle - on the territory of the Hungarian Kingdom in the second half of the 12th century and became an important city in medieval Transylvania. Its city walls were reinforced after the Tatar (Mongol) invasions from 1241-1242, but the city was occupied in 1438 by the Ottoman Empire. Transylvania's voivode John I Zápolya died in Sebe in 1540. The Transylvanian Diet met in Sebe in 1546, 1556, 1598 and 1600. The location of the meetings, the Zápolya House, is now a museum.
After the union with Romania in 1918, the first mayor of the city was Lionel Blaga, the brother of the Romanian poet and philosopher Lucian Blaga, who was born in the nearby village of Lancrm.

RESTRUCTURING YOUTH PARK SEBES

Creating "Youth Park" Sebes was an idea competition organized by the City of Sebes in collaboration with the Faculty of Architecture & Urban Planning in Cluj-Napoca Romania. The proposed new version aimed to solve problems of functional aesthetic design of the park, but also introducing new functions required by us.
We were able to integrate small squares that create different checkpoints, exhibition spaces, café and flower, small squares make this urban space more meaningful due to the multiple activities that can accommodate through good management.
Mapping new paths, was done respecting the position of existing vegetation, and the main routes of bystanders, as the park is also a place of transit for residents of northeastern Sebes who want to reach the center of the town.
Regarding the lake we proposed a redesign of the contour-it was considered too large, relative to the size of the park. Thus, we could obtain the necessary space to create on the eastern side of the lake an amphitheater and on the western side a restaurant.
Another element of this proposal was planning the area near the Tower of students, it is one of the few fragments of the former fortification of the city of Sebes building that remained uncovered. This space deserves to be highlighted and integrated in the planning of the park, due to lack of clear uses / design became a conjunctive space. In this space we used a range of lighting effects to emphasize the historical monument whit it's borders. Also, urban furniture was placed linearly, but eccentric to leave a larger space available for activities such as open air projection&artistic manifestations.
