We have already encountered the Rouennais in 2021 with the excellent EP Random Acts of Total Control (VisioChronique hebdo n°43). Here they are back this year, with their first album which confirms a know-how already allowing Unschooling to sound like no other: the quintet changes the codes to offer us its iconoclastic universe, but with an impressive formal unity.
New World Artifacts is one of those records that must be listened to and not heard: a personal investment that pays off in the incredible richness offered in the dissonance. Here the strange rubs shoulders with liveliness with a smoothly managed subtlety: the palpable influences on their previous EP fade away to give way to a unique work, with cinematographic narration, mastering the art of collage and rupture, in structures as convoluted as they are effective.
Authors of music like no other, always on the edge, the Unschooling never cease to surprise us: a group that opens a breach into which we let ourselves be swallowed up without the slightest resistance. Masterful!
