SKIP WASTE
In 2021, construction and demolition waste accounted for an enormous 44% of Australia‚ waste. While much of this material is downcycled into lower grade products, raw material extraction and deposits into landfill continue to increase every year. The forecasted increase in Australia‚ housing stock, makes this statistic even more concerning. The SKIP WASTE project seeks to explore the potential of an onsite construction waste detection system using computer vision and machine learning, to improve waste management practices. This technology would allow builders and bin companies to flag contamination, optimise waste diversion to resource recovery centres, as well as provide create online waste trading markets. The successful outcome of this project could lead to higher profits for builders through reducing waste, smarter building design, reduce landfill fees.
