The design concept of “Ostrov mechty” metro station
The concept of the metro station was developed as part of an international competition. This station is located on a peninsula on the Moscow River. Nearby is the well-known in the city children's shopping and entertainment complex "Island of Dreams". the station is proposed to be named as well. However, in addition to it, there is also a South River Port nearby, which, after reconstruction, will be another point of attraction for this location. The design concept of “Ostrov mechty” station incorporates associations with objects of the nearby territory and reflects the essence of the nearby children's entertainment complex of the same name, the South River Station and the large volume of the water surface of the Moskva River.
I decided to make the image of a children's game on the river - a game of paper boats - the main idea of this concept. So I combined the image of the river, dreams and children's game.
The main element of the station is a mirrored metal ceiling with the effect of water ripples with white lamp-ships floating on it. Being on the platform, we look at them from below, from the depths. Hidden behind the ceiling are iridescent colored lights that add an element of celebration. Ribs of honey-golden color descend from the ceiling through soft rounding walls, symbolizing the stiffening ribs of a wooden boat. The floor of the station is made of two colors of granite and assembled into a composition depicting circles on the water. Honey-golden bench boats “float” along the floor of the station.
Getting to the station, we are already looking forward to a fun pastime in “Ostrov mechty” amusement park and a possible subsequent boat trip.
