Paraty is a small city with mountains as a backdrop on Brazil's Costa Verde, between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Its Portuguese colonial center has cobbled streets and buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries from when it functioned as a port, during the Brazilian gold cycle.
