The Design Narrative:
The Design Challenge
The Design + Music Poster project showcases the power of pairing music with design. Choose a music genre, an artist, and a song. Consider all kinds of music, including classical, jazz, folk, rock, punk, etc. The AIGA Poster show is dedicated to share creativity and excellence in graphic design among different graphic designers. To show my skills, I propose a meaningful poster combining Otl Aicher and song Gonna Fly Now – known from Rocky movie. This design will incorporate text and image that define Aicher’s style. Moreover, it aims to spark an inspiration within our community.
Research and Inspiration
My journey began with extensive research, conducted through brainstorming and the resources of the internet. I explored different Graphic Designers and I looked for specific ideas, looking into iconic movements, and I was trying to find perfect connection between the song and the artist. This thorough research provided the foundation for my creative process. I am certainly sure this is a very good connection of this two fields.
Initial Sketches
I began the creative process by brainstorming, which later on helped me with sketching. From these sketches, I selected three concepts that I believed have the potential to became a final project. Afterwards, with some outside critique I choose the best one. I liked all of this ideas, however, I believe my final solution works the best.
Design Concept
My design concept centers around the idea of Otl Aicher works and Gonna Fly Now song. The design size is 24X36 inches. I was aiming to communicate the connection between artis works and that popular song from Rocky movie. I wanted my design to be both understood by target audience and visually appealing to them. To achieve all this goals, I did a lot of sketching and digital compositions.
