More than 160 peoples live on the territory of Russia, including 40 small peoples, whose number is less than 50,000 people. Indigenous peoples are recognized as those who live on the territory of their ancestors, possessions in the northern regions of Russia, the Far East and Siberia, while preserving their ethnicity, corresponding way of life, and language.

The structure of the book is as follows: according to the latest census for 2021, the Khanty are the most numerous of the small people, more than 30 thousand people, followed by peoples with a smaller population—the Chukchi (16 thousand), the Kets (1088 people), and ends with the smallest people— Kereks, whose number is 23.

Структура книги выстраивается следующим образом: по последней переписи за 2021 год, ханты являются самым многочисленным из малочисленных народом, более 30к человек, далее идут народы с численностью населения меньше—чукчи (16к), кеты (1088 человек), и кончается самым малочисленным народом—кереками, численность которых равняется 23.
The multi-page publication Indigenous Peoples of the North tells about the cultural characteristics of each people. The book contains research works by five different authors, which were combined into one publication. Thus, the book “Indigenous Small Peoples of the North” reveals in detail the characteristics of the ethnic group of each people, because from a cultural point of view, it is important to preserve and transmit knowledge about the small indigenous peoples of Russia.
