Journey through the Storm

Journey through the storm
Displayed above is a set of images telling a story in a visual way, without the use of words. The purpose of this project was to construct a story using a limited number of images  with the use of multiple art tools. The images are used to construct a story about a guy who has to get some medical supplies to another hospital while trying to get through a storm.
The story
In these two images, the one on the left displays a medical box. The second image on the right shows a woman communicating with her team that someone needs to get the medical box, which contains important supplies, to another hospital. The problem is that it is raining and thunder storming outside and someone needs to get to the other hospital on foot. One person raises their hand, offering to take the supplies.
As the next three images display, the man is running through the storm, scared but determined to reach his destination. Midway, however, the medical box falls out of his hands due to the excessive weather. He manages to retrieve the box as the third image shows.
In the final images, the man with the box reaches the other hospital in time, where one of the employees lets him in through the door. The second image shows a few patients in desperate need of medical attention while the doctors got to work on helping them. The final image shows a patient fully recovered and expresses gratitude towards the doctor getting the medical supplies to the hospital, likewise another doctor, all while the storm outside has ceased and the sun rises. I did have a few issues with the painting. Due to the brush I was using at the time, I could only fill in so much, which is why some areas are left blank. I managed to find smaller brushes and used them to get a few areas but it still left characters unfinished. The drawing was also an issue for the painting part and the size of the images but I did the best I could before the deadline.

Tools for this Design
The tools used for this design was a pencil, charcoal, ruler, a paintbrush, and paint. I used the ruler and pencil to construct the boxes and line them up properly.  I also used the pencil to create the people in the images as well as objects. I used charcoal for the dark background and rain, as a way to create a feeling of dread and make someone wonder if the doctor was going to make it to his destination.

For painting, I wanted to use the color yellow to show the lightning, as it is a color most people would associate with a thunderstorm. The color blue is used in the first two images to display a sense of hopelessness, given the situation. The next three images have an emphasis on black to show the danger the protagonist is in. In the last three images, the color green is used to give a more hopeful feeling as the doctor made it on time.
Early Design Ideas
The image below displays a list of themes I had in mind for the construction of my visual storytelling. The rest are sketches of potential ideas for my visual storytelling project.
A set of images for motorcycle journey.
A set of images for night to day.
Finally, a handful of images for selfishness vs selflessness.
I eventually decided to go with the Journey through the Storm as I thought it was the most visually entertaining one out of the rest of the sketches.
