This is a cartoon portrait I was commissioned to create as a wedding gift. It was printed on fine matte archival paper, framed, and presented to the bride & groom. It was received very enthusiastically and now occupies a place of honor on the wall of Mr. & Mrs. Service's home.
I nailed the bride's likeness quickly. I struggled more with the groom, which is a reversal of how this sort of thing would usually go. We wouldn't know what the bride's dress would look like until the day of the wedding so I had to guess based on what I could glean of her personality from the photos I received. I ended up being pretty much spot on. The family dog was added to the portrait even though he didn't attend the wedding.
I'm a pop artist first and foremost, and I like my work to dance along a fine line between feeling like a mass produced consumer object and a one-of-a-kind work of art. I was very happy to hear that Mr. & Mrs Service were impressed with this gift.
If you know someone who is getting married, what gift could possibly top a custom art work of the happy couple? Give me call!
