"Wave 1226" is a parametric panel designed as an intricate grid of discrete points arranged to create an undulated surface that will be used as a decorative wall texture. Its dimensions are 50 x 50 cm, and it comprises a composition of 1229 wooden dowels, each varying in diameter and height, adding depth to the panel.
The primary idea was the creation of a new Grasshopper script with a rippling effect using different graphs or point attractors. The result is an engaging play of light and shadow through thickenings and dilutions, achieved via parametric design. During the manufacturing phase, the team gathered valuable insights and information that helped them optimize the assembly process, as well as offer solutions to overcome challenges posed by machine and material limitations. The combined height of the dowels reaches approximately 4980 mm and each one was inserted into the base which was cut by a laser cutting machine.
Overall, the project showcases the potential of merging digital design and traditional craftsmanship.
