Nothing But Thieves Album Covers

For this project, I decided to take an idea from one of the thumbnails from one of my previous projects, the Nothing But Thieves Logo, and turn it into an album cover. I ended up doing two different covers with the same overall theme.

First thing I did was find a reference photo of a flower and brought it into Photoshop. I made different variations with the same flower image using the reflection and rotation tools. Here I started to struggle with figuring out how to incorporate different saturations and filters without losing focus of the main idea. I decided to just play around with what I could make and be flexible instead of being narrow minded with one set idea.

After picking the two strongest variations, I brought each of them into Procreate. I've never done text in Procreate before so I experimented and got used to how it works. I decided to use Procreate instead of Illustrator because I wanted to challenge myself and I felt the execution of the idea would work better.

I created glitch and a subtle halftone effect before adding the text for the first cover. For the second cover, I messed with the colors by adding a chromatic aberration effect. This made the overall image feel a bit more lively and put together.

Next I added text to the images. I decided on the font "impact" because I wanted to have a stronger bold font that would be more noticeable than a thinner and smaller font. My original thought was to liquify the text but it wasn't coming out the way I had hoped and wasn't translating very well. I decided to add a small glitch to the text in the first cover to spice up the text a bit. My one struggle with adding the glitch effect to the font was to not over do it to the point where it was unreadable, but I found a happy medium I liked. I kept the text normal on the second cover because I felt like there was too much going on with it. If I did add an effect it would become too much and unreadable.
