Summary of the story:
Matilda has bad premonitions and embroiders them on a towel, indicating that they will come true. She doesn't like this gift and the village despises her for it. Matilda's son is in a wheelchair and dependent on her.
At one point, the embroidery reveals a bad omen about her own son. She tries to save him and she fails.
He dies, and the village comes to see her as someone useful.
