BIVOUAC - A MOUNTAIN STORY

While this summer may have been difficult and unsettling because of the strange atmosphere in the air and all the changes it brought, there was one thing that stood out for me this summer: The return to the mountains with my favorite team.

After receiving a message from Amandine inviting me to meet up with our Archive project team for a bivouac as far as Lac d'Ansabère, I packed my bag, my drone and my camera and met up with the rest of team, Ludo & Hugo for two unforgettable days.

Because of the heat, we spend the early part of the day wandering around in the lower valley. And once the sweltering midday sun began to sink in, we set off for the start of the hike.
We started the hikes late in the afternoon but it was still really hot
Enjoy the smiles while they last, because the higher they are the fewer they are.
After an first hour's hike, we stop at a shepherd's hut to refill our water reserves before embarking on the second part of the hike.
Departure for the next stage of the walk under the curious eye of the shepherd sitting on the terrace of his cabin.
I stopped several times along the way to admire the view, and each time the landscape changed, creating a never-ending spectacle.
After more than two hours of walking, we arrived at the ansabère lake where we met up with another group.
After setting up our tent and putting our things down, I take out the drone to try and capture the view. Unfortunately there wasn't enough coverage so the drone didn't have any range. I still decided to keep a souvenir by taking this shot
after the attempted drone flight, we decided to sit back and enjoy the view
Time to get the beer out and enjoy the sunset in good conditions
Watching the last ray of sunlight grace the crest of the mountain before diving into the obscurity of the night
After it got dark  we all had a snack & chat, then around midnight we decided to make ourselves something to eat.
But that night was special beceause the sky was forecast to be perfectly clear, with no moon in sight. But what made this night special was that we where still in the Perseid nights. A phenomenon that occurs every year in August and allow a clear observations of shooting stars.
So our plan was to wait until the middle of the night at our basecamp and then climb to the top of the mountain for a 360-Degree view. But before that I had to test my equipement
Sadly my equipement isn't made for astrophotography, but I've tried to highlight the stars anyway
On the way to the summit at 00:30
Hugo looking up at the stars while I walk around with my headlamp on
Here's what I was able to capture with my poor fuji XPRO-3, wich was overheating at the top of the mountain. These probably won't be the best photos of Perseid nights, but I did my best
After more than a hour of capturing the stars and amiring the sky, we returned to our tents to finish our night. (with difficulty, thanks to the cows right next to us who made a incredible mess)
Next morning , waking up was a bit difficult for everyone
After breakfast we packed up our tents, cleaned the camp and enjoyed the view one last time, we set off for the return trip by car. Same as the day before we stopped at the shepherd's hut to fill a bottle of water but this time we met this cute little boy
We finnaly arrived at the car under a overwhelming sun, tired and exausthed but happy for all the beautiful images we had seen
🤠  A little note: I just want to thank Amandine, Ludo and Hugo for their eternal kindness. They always take me with them on these adventures which have a great impact on me. These moments are the most precious I have experienced since the last time we went to the mountains and I am happy to have been able to document them to keep them close to me
