A bicycle sharing system is a new mode of public transportation built for individual citizens to share its use temporarily, especially in urban areas. This new way of transit schemes have newly and rapidly appeared  across the world, and now they can be easily found in any major cities. Its main goal is letting people depart from a certain place and get to a different destination without concerns about the ownership or theft of a property. Bike-shares have been quickly growing as of late, so in the early spring of 2013, there were about 535 systems globally, which approximates the number of 517,000 bicycles.

Bike-shares can be considerably more meaningful when it is built in a big city than a relatively suburban area because not only it resolves environmental issues but it also allows citizens to avoid a massive traffic jam and crowded existing modes of transportation. Furthermore, they allow their user to save money and time along with improving health as a consequent advantage.

The infographic displays bicycle sharing systems placed in big cities that is densely populated such as New York, London, Paris, or Shanghai. What makes this alternative sharing system is fascinating is that it usually relates to other issues like health, environment, and demographic and social infrastructure. When the data of a list of cities that have the biggest bike sharing systems is visualized, it does not just show the number of bicycles but proves that those cities are thoughtfully engaged and involved with these issues.
