Through the Keyhole

The majority of my work includes fantasy themes, especially fictional or animal inspired characters. I tend to draw a lot of inspiration from nature and fairy tales, so when possible I like to combine the two.

“My name is Earnest.” Digital art piece. A3 (4961 x 3508px)
This is a book cover I did for the classic Oscar Wilde play called “The importance of being Earnest.” The play is essentially Wilde’s humorous commentary on the superficial, and ridiculous nature the rich in the Victorian would have back in his day.

This is one of my favourite pieces in literature since it takes on a funnier and somewhat light-hearted plot compared the other works of Oscar Wilde which are known to be darker and melancholier. I decided on using a finick fox as a representative of Earnest who is the main protagonist of this play, since he is known for his sly and cheeky nature much like foxes are. I dressed him up in a suit to show his rich status, and gave him a mask, representing the mask he would put on when socialising with others
These are the multiple variations of the book cover I went through, including the final sketch for the final piece. I settled on using just the fox instead of both characters, because I found it more visually appealing having the focus on one character.
