Website, blog and shop design - Poke London
Poke were briefed to working on the rationalising and redesign of the entire Skype site, my part was designing and templating the About Skype, Media Centre, Press Centre and the 3 core Skype Blogs as well as creating the info modules dotted around the site.
Each of these sections had very specific and functional requirements of their own but needed to sit tightly within the wider Skype design family creating a consistency with minimal design cues. Working closely with UX and front end dev I created a series of templates and guides for the four areas to grow and adapt over time.
A large part of the creative process was also defining the functionality of each page as every element needed to work hard to allow as skim view and a deeper view, in addtion on content heavy pages that needed to allow users to locate content effortlessly, I created a simple user centric taxonomy to simplify and filter search results as well as letting users explore inline content.
My favourite part of the project was creating the side panel info modules, which effectivley served multiple functions around the site but had to do this I created a nifty little jquery system to allow people to either skim read or dive into deeper content and functionality.
The site will ultimatley be rolled out in twelve languages, so all design elements had to be flexible enough to handle different languages without losing quality of design.
In addition to the Skype site I worked with Poke Design Director Nicky Gibson, on creating initial designs and functional spec for the Skype store - which was essentially a Skype app store for all third party Skype applications, one of the key elements of this project was creating a simple ordering/icon system for the app types.
