Title: Expansive Traces
Through this piece I want to emphasize the metaphorical weight of objects that are usually found on dining tables (bowls, plates, glasses etc). A dining table is a space for people to be together and just being together for a few moments in that space can form so many memories. If the significance of those memories associated with dining tables and with the plates and bowls on them could be measured or would have had a physical form, I imagine them to be weighing down and leaving their marks on the dining table.
But that is just the idea I started with! It might or might not makes sense to you! This artwork can have so many more interpretations based on how you perceive it! For example, my mom’s interpretation was a beautiful one! She saw it as a dining table that has been serving people for so many years that the dishes and bowls, symbolizing its responsibilities, have eventually weighed down on it! Motherhood and home-making can get so overwhelming🥺 My mom’s life experiences shaped her view of this artwork!
My aunt’s interpretation was fascinating as well! She felt that this dining table is being weighed down by the duty of making sure that there’s food on everyone’s plate. She imagined the table to be the breadwinner of a family.
