Halos
Clay Lamps
Through time vision has been used as a metaphor of awareness and knowledge, we talk about seeing the nonmaterial, the abstract; clarity as a concept of understanding. Halos is about the connection between sight and awareness. Based on the development of a monocular alter-ego limited to live reality with just one perspective, this collection is an extension of itself.
The collection is inspired in the six extraocular muscles found around the human eye, which fulfill the function to move it in different directions as well as the focus mechanism. Each lamp represents a muscle and the capacity to change the light direction represents the change of perspective or point of view.
IDEATION AND SKETCHING
PROTOTYPING
FINAL PRODUCT
The overlapping of pieces permits a light dissipation through the gaps and projects the rest through cones of different proportions. The use of warm light highlights the natural clays tone and lets us contemplate the beauty of such noble material.
Each piece was carefully shaped, looking to join two sister disciplines, design and craftsmanship promoting creative collaboration. Halos was developed through a neo-artisanal creative process, starting with the understanding of objects as an extension of ourselves. In collaboration with René Matadamas, local artisan.
