The Memoirs of Cairo

The Memoirs of Cairo
–––
Nostalgia has a huge impact on our lives, one we aren’t fully aware of. Nostalgia can strengthen our sense of personal continuity, reminding us that
we possess a store of powerful memories that are deeply intertwined with our identity. After intense research, I designed an interactive experience called “The Memoirs of Cairo”. A traveling exhibition where people experience nostalgia by stimulating their 5 senses through art installations.

Visual Language
–––
I went through too many experiments to come up with a visual identity that best communicates nostalgia. The final outcome was achieved through a scanning technique. The distortion of text reflects how our memories are usually distorted and unclear until they are triggered by a one of our senses. The colors are inspired by how nostalgia has the power to change our body temperature from cold to warm.

The exhibition consists of five rooms, each room represents one of our five senses.
–––
Color Palette - From Cold to Warm
Cold: Nostalgia is provoked in chilly atmospheres.
Warm: Nostalgia makes one feel literally warmer.
Visual Language - From Vague to Vivid
Vague: Memories tend to be unclear and washed-out before experiencing nostalgia.
Vivid: Nostalgia makes memories more vivid and clear.
–––
Posters Visual Concept
Each of the 5 posters represents one of the rooms in the exhibition. As the audience move from one room to the other, their memories are revived gradually and their bodies get warmer. Therefore, the posters are designed to move from vague to vivid and from cold to warm.
