Cup "Daedalus"
O mito
Dédalo era um construtor e um escultor muito competente de Atenas. Refugiou se com o filho Ícaro na Ática e foi incumbido de construir um labirinto para guardar o terrível Minotauro, filho da Rainha Pasifae, mulher de Minos, e de um touro. Minotauro era um monstro, metade homem e metade touro, que se alimentava de carne humana. O labirinto era tão perfeito que até Dédalo teve dificuldade em sair dele.
No entanto, Ariadne, filha do rei Minos, apaixonou se pelo jovem Teseu, que iria sacrificar sua vida em nome da pátria ateniense. Com a ajuda de Dédalo, o jovem recebeu um novelo de fio que guiou o herói para fora do labirinto.
Furioso com a traição de Dédalo, o rei Minos mandou prender Dédalo e seu filho Ícaro numa ilha de onde não poderiam fugir sem autorização do rei. Dédalo começou então a imaginar uma fuga. Recolheu penas de aves e, unindo as com cera, construiu asas para si e para o filho. Conseguiram assim voar até uma ilha vizinha, mas Ícaro, entusiasmado com o sucesso da experiência, continuou a voar cada vez mais alto, não dando ouvidos a Dédalo, que de terra o advertia para não voar alto de mais, por causa do sol. Como se aproximou demasiado do sol, este derreteu a cera das asas e Ícaro caiu no mar Egeu, afogando-se.
The myth
Daedalus was a builder and a very competent sculptor of Athens. Refuge with his son Icarus in Attica and was commissioned to build a labyrinth to save the terrible Minotaur, son of Queen Pasiphae, wife of Minos, and a bull. Minotaur was a monster, half man and half bull, that fed on human flesh. The labyrinth was so perfect that even Daedalus had trouble getting out of it.
However, Ariadne, daughter of King Minos, fell in love with the young Theseus , who would sacrifice his life on behalf of the Athenian homeland. With the help of Daedalus, the young man received a skein of yarn that guided the hero out of the labyrinth.
Furious at the betrayal of Daedalus, King Minos ordered the arrest of Daedalus and his son Icarus on an island where they couldn't escape without the king's permission. Daedalus then began to imagine an escape. Collected bird feathers, and uniting them with wax, constructed wings for himself and his son. Succeeded so fly to a neighboring island, but Icarus, thrilled with the success of the experiment, continued to fly higher and higher, not paying attention to Daedalus, who warned not to fly too high, because of the sun. But he approached the sun too, then melted the wax wings and Icarus fell into the Aegean sea, drowning.
O projeto
O tema do projeto era desenvolver um objeto que tivesse o nome Dedalus logo, deveria fazer referência ao mito.
Sendo assim, desenvolvi o projeto de uma xícara. Utilizando os dois sentidos que a palavra 'asa' pode ter, tanto como asa de animal, como asa da xícara, surgiu a idéia do projeto: fazer uma xícara que a própria alça/asa, fosse uma asa de animal. Fazendo assim referência as asas que Dédalo fez para que ele e seu filho saissem da ilha, sem descaracterizar o objeto 'xícara'. No pires dá xicara, foi desenhado o labirinto, obra de Dédalo. O labirinto faz referência a algo imóvel, que fica fixo no local. E a xícara, por ser algo que é manipulado pelo usuário, faz referência ao vôo de Dédalo e Ícaro.
O projeto foi desenvolvido a partir de uma xícara de cerâmica pronta e a asa moldada em massa epoxi, acabamento com tinta acrílica e desenhos feitos com caneta para cerâmica.
The project
The theme of the project was to develop an object that had the name Dedalus soon, should make reference to the myth.
Therefore, I developed the project of a cup. Using the two senses the word 'wing' can have, both as animal wing such as handle of the cup, come the idea of the project: make a cup that the handle was a wing animal. Making references to the wings that Daedalus designed for himself and his son to leave the island, without mischaracterizing the 'cup' object. On the saucer, designed the labyrinth, work of Daedalus. The labyrinth refers to something immovable, which is fixed in a place. And the cup, to be something that is manipulated by the user, it makes reference to the flight of Daedalus and Icarus.
The project was developed from a ceramic cup ready and wing molded in epoxy mass, finishing with acrylic ink and pen drawings made with ceramic.
