The in-game art style had already been established when I was briefed for this project and no 3D assets were available. Since the budget was extremely modest, I worked with an in-house illustrator on a sketch exploration. When the concept was approved, I art directed the illustration agency Ars Thanea, resulting in an cost-effective yet high-quality matte painting and CG combo. The scene highlights two of the more exciting "god-game" tools at the player’s disposal - volcanos and tsunamis.
