PERSUASIVE POSTER

WEEK 4 : PERSUASIVE POSTER
This weeks task was to create a persuasive poster for a target demographic to support an environmental cause. We were given a choice to choose a cause from our own passions. I decided to shed light on fast fashion and the waste that comes from the fashion industry annually. Supporting second hand stores and charity shops not only supports small businesses and minimises purchasing from fast fashion chains but also supports the lives of others through the charity. The demographic I chose to target was families with young children.

IMAGE 1 : Idea One
mediums : 0.2 fine liner, HB Pencil, eraser, 110 gsm paper

process : started by using my HB pencil to draw 3 grids in the sketchbook as my guide for poster ideas. Then I roughly sketched outlines of what I wanted each poster to look like. After trail and error and lots of rubbing out with my eraser, once I was happy with the final images I went over it with a 0.2 fine liner to solidify my images.
reflection : I was very satisfied with this poster. I think "Save Our Mother" instead of the repeated save our earth provides a deeper level of a human connection. We all come from a mother and our Mother Earth deserves to be nurtured and cared for just like how she does by giving us a home to live in. I believe thats really powerful. Having the caption isolated from the rest of the chaos also emphasises on the message I'm trying to convey. In terms of the drawings, I like how I was able to incorporate various serious issues into one frame with the air pollution from factories, capitalist overconsumption, pollution from garbage, dying/burnt trees and climate change.

IMAGE 2 : Idea Two

reflection : Not my strongest poster idea but I still believe I was able to capture the essence of the message in a more child friendly way. with a cartooned earth being chased by a stickman in a high top hat, symbolising the wealthy businessmen that control our capitalist society, while lugging a cart with factories, cars pollution and money flying out from it. Again, I isolated the caption for emphasis. I believe it paints the imagery without being to difficult to understand for my target audience.

IMAGE 3 : Idea Three
reflection : I thought this approach to the brief would be quite unique. The issue of minimising purchases that support fast fashion is still very relevant and bringing awareness to second hand stores and charity shops is always a great movement. I purposefully made the image to be more child friendly considering the demographic. Therefore I did not draw and harsh or sharp lines, the edges are all curved making it look for approachable. the coat that is hung also provides that element of comfort with the fluffy texture, it could also represent the harmful fur industry and how buying fur clothing secondhand is better for the environment. I thought the element of having a bandage on the heart was also really clever- symbolising once loved and can be loved again. Overall, I really loved this idea so I went through with it for my final.

IMAGE 4 : Final Poster V.1
mediums : Adobe Illustrator, crayon

process : Firstly I coloured in the third image with crayon to mimic that child-like drawing style. then I scanned that on to my laptop and pasted it into a new illustrator project. After reading colour psychology I chose this matcha green colour to emulate the positive emotional connotation that it has proven to have, it is also a softer colour so that it won't be harsh on the eyes either. then I added a caption of a mock charity shop name and a pretend creator of the drawing so that it paints the image of "made by children for children".

reflection : I am satisfied with this poster. I think it is a really cute idea and I can absolutely see this hung up at my local thrift store. one area of improvement could be that there is a lot of empty space in the poster so perhaps if I were to redo it I would add more elements maybe stickers or other sketches.

IMAGE 5 : Final Poster V.2 - Collage
mediums : Adobe Illustrator, Crayon, 0.2 Fine Liner, 110 gsm paper

process : Firstly I drew more items of clothing with my crayon and outlined the hangers with my fine liner. Then I purposefully ripped my image 3 from my sketchbook and the new drawings of the clothing to imitate the scrapbooking style. I then saw that just the clothing wasn't enough so I carried over the idea of having the drawing "made by children for children" and added a "Sarah" (my mock child artist) with some other little drawings surrounding it and ripped that out too. I combined all of the images and laid them onto the back of my notebook that has the same texture and colour as a brown paper bag. Using my iPhone notes app I scanned the image onto my phone and airdropped it to my laptop and pasted it into illustrator. Then using illustrator I rearranged a couple images and added similar captions as image 4.

reflection : I am really proud of this poster. I think this presents itself perfectly to the target demographic of families with young children. It is highly visually appealing and can be appreciated by both the 35-55 yo parents and the with small school-aged kids demographic of the brief. If I were to improve the poster, I would add more visual elements like stickers with stars or smiley faces just to fill some space. Overall, really happy with the outcome!
