Orange Spot Coffeehouse

The objective of this project was to create a patio area for the customers of The Orange Spot Coffeehouse to enjoy as well as produce herbs and other edibles that could be used commercially by the coffeeshop.
Under a giant Live Oak providing shade from the rays of the South Carolina sun in the backyard was the obvious choice of location for this patio. Some outdoor furniture was already on site and due to the tight budget of this young yet rapidly growing business, the design revolved around existing furniture. The design includes mimimal pavers for hidden stability beneath the tables and chairs, a mulch groundcover for a recognizable patio boundary and plenty of recycled materials.
The 2' high planters provide the boundary between the seating area and the lawn which is used for weekend activities such as yoga and Tae Bo. It is the perfect height to act as a visual and physical boundary line and let the seated customers feel comfortable in their space. The planter also provides the platform for the coffeehouse to grow their herbs, of which they have Sweet Basil, Rosemary, Peppermint and Chocolate Mint. It is constructed out of recycled roofing wood.
The patio also features a farm table, hand-made out of recycled decking wood.
Lastly, the patio is separated from the A/C unit and trash storage by a 4' fence constructed out of timber pallets.
This is phase one of a future sustainable garden, constructed as much as possible out of recycled materials and producing fruits, vegetables and herbs for its owners.
I recommend visiting this cute coffeehouse in Park Circle, ordering a Cha-Yen and relaxing in the shade of their new little oasis.
