Shrink Tomato, Pasing of Time. Week 2
DVB102
#oneperday23
Overview:
These hand-drawn images depict the changes that occur to a mature tomato kept at room temperature over the course of five days.
Tool: Photoshop
Figure 1: Day 1
Tool: 2B led pencil
Technique:
+ Crosshatching
+ Smudging
Reflection:
Firstly, there is a notification of a smooth, and lustrous skin texture wrapped around the flesh. The overall real-life scenario features a vibrantly red epidermis with a hint of green of the leaves on top. Personally, since this is my first attempt at illustrating by pencil, the selection of the crosshatching technique simplifies the process.
Figure 2: Day 2
Tool: 2B led pencil
Technique:
+ Crosshatching
+ Smudging
Reflection:
On the second day, the tomato still looked edible and remained the same size as the day before. Nonetheless, I notice hints of faint yellow dots at the top of it while the surface slightly turns yellowish in the area surrounding it.
Figure 3: Day 3
Tool: 2B led pencil
Technique:
+ Crosshatching
+ Smudging
Reflection:
By this time, the yellowish area had spread out following the enlargement of visible tiny yellow dots. To showcase this transformation, I highlighted the dots to establish a distinction from the unaffected surface which is illustrated in the shadow.
Figure 4: Day 4
Tool: 2B led pencil
Technique:
+ Crosshatching
+ Smudging
Reflection:
After four days at room temperature, the upper half of the tomato turned yellowish as the number of dots escalated.
Figure 5: Day 5
Tool: 2B led pencil
Technique:
+ Crosshatching
+ Smudging
Reflection:
Furthermore, it slightly shrinks compared to the first day due to the loss of flesh water. Therefore, I attempt to draw the tomato marginally smaller.
Conclusion:
This process of observing and illustrating at the same time enhanced my design skills, especially the ability to pay attention to details that are crucial to every designer in order to bring their work to the next level.
