This week continue on discovering Lino printing with more colours and expressing ourselves with a "portrait" image that could be something that represents our personality or our own image.

Tools used: Lino tile, carving tool, 2b pencil, eraser, ink, ink roller, A4 paper, Adobe Photoshop.

Image 1: Self portrait (Black & White)
Instead of drawing my own face as the "portrait", I choose to draw an eagle because it always has been my favourite animal since little. But then instead of just carving the outline like last week, this time I decided to go deeper and by understanding where I wanted to be black and white. If I used the same method as last week it would be just black background and white outlines. Instead I want to try black outlines this time, which so there is more carving need to be done.

Image 2: Self portrait (1colour + Black)
These images is when I started to edit in photoshop to add some colours into the Lino print. By using the methods learned last week, I tried different colours (1colour) + black on the image. Trying to add different colours on to different part each time to find the best result.
Image 3: Self portrait (2colour + Black)
Then using the similar method, I tried putting more than 1 colour on to the image. It was supposed to be 2 colours, but I kept the blue background from previous edit. This time I tried colouring the eagle with its original colour. With more colours, I added a little bit of shadings and highlights to make the image more interesting.
Image 4: Digital poster: What I stand for (Black & White)
Going back to the black and white image and create a poster with it. I also used some pre-made Lino print textures on the studio to add into the design. I chose that texture is because I think it looks like wind and it relates to my design. On my opinion, I always think eagle gives me a feeling of flying high and capturing its prey very quick and precise. Me as a person, I think that it is important for us to chase our dreams and step out of the comfort zone to try every thing and be ambitious. So I came up with this poster at the end. The font I choose is "HVD Rowdy" because it has the texture which looks like Lino printed.
Image 5: Digital poster: What I stand for (Full Colour)
Now I began adding colours into the black and white poster. From the textures, before colouring, it looks like it's just "wind" or "cloud" but by adding colour on to it, it can show the sun, lights, wind and cloud all together. Besides that, I also matched the colour on to the text to make the whole poster more visual appealing and less boring. The bottom I decided to go with green to show it as the land, so all together the poster have the elements of the nature where eagles are mostly at (air when flying, land when hunting).
Small Reflection:
This week I got another chance of trying out Lino printing again and I am really grateful because I get another chance to create something more advance compare to the first time. In addition of the techniques and method learned from previous week, I am pretty satisfy with the outcome this time as a "second chance". However, I wished I have more time at the studio to carve for details or texture for the final image.
