Auto-Capping Device - Free Design Project
A university project in which I had the opportunity to respond to a broad variety of prompts, and create a design solution relating to my discipline, Industrial Design.

I focused on the topic of Health & Safety, particularly relating to bio-hazards within a healthcare environment, based on my own experiences in the pathology lab. 
My design solution depicts a small-scale auto-capping device, intended for use in specimen collection centres. Aimed to decrease the risk of biohazards to healthcare workers, the implementation of this device will not only create a safer working environment, but also in turn, increase the efficiency of the system. The process starts at collection centres, where patient samples are collected for testing at pathologies. While it may seem like an intuitive process, the action of closing the lid on a swab is sometimes overlooked, which leads to leakages and increased risk of contamination and infection. This design takes a preventative approach to the issue, automating the process of closing specimen tubes and jars, eliminating the factor of human error.
In a group of 4 multi-disciplinary students, we collaborated on a group exhibition "Safe Haven", compiling our designs under a common theme of Safety:
