TURMOIL AFRICA

Turmoil has been a recurring theme in the history of Africa, with many countries experiencing periods of unrest and conflict. One of the most significant examples of turmoil in recent African history occurred during the Rwandan Genocide of 1994, which resulted in the deaths of an estimated 800,000 people. Other examples of turmoil in Africa include the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has claimed millions of lives since the 1990s, and the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria, which has displaced millions of people and caused widespread destruction since 2009.

The Rwandan Genocide of 1994 was a mass slaughter of the Tutsi ethnic group by the Hutu majority in Rwanda. The conflict was sparked by the assassination of Rwandan President Juvénal Habyarimana, a Hutu, and was fueled by longstanding ethnic tensions between the two groups. The genocide lasted for approximately 100 days and resulted in the deaths of an estimated 800,000 people, mostly Tutsis.

In the Democratic Republic of Congo, conflicts have been ongoing since the early 1990s, with various rebel groups vying for control of the country's mineral resources. The conflict has been marked by widespread violence, including massacres, rape, and the use of child soldiers. It is estimated that over five million people have died as a result of the conflict, making it one of the deadliest in modern history.

The Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria began in 2009, when the group launched a series of attacks on government buildings and police stations. Since then, the group has carried out numerous bombings and attacks on civilians, particularly in northeastern Nigeria. The conflict has resulted in the displacement of millions of people, and has caused widespread destruction of infrastructure and property.
