CKEditor 5 is not at all compatible with CKEditor--think of it as a Drupal 7 to 8 rebuild. The Drupal community has collaborated with the CKEditor team at CKSource for years, and we have dedicated thousands of hours to creating an upgrade path from CKEditor 4 to CKEditor 5 for Drupal 10 users. Although we have made progress, there is still more work to be done to complete our goal and make it easy for those who build sites to upgrade from CKEditor 4 to 5.
The truth be told - since CKEditor 5 is such an important part of Drupal 10, the release date had to be pushed back to December 2022.
