Marketing Material (May–July 1989)

Back in the late 1980's and early 1990's in Graz/Austria, friends of mine formed some bands together, with me as keyboarder and sometimes also drum machine operator. Sadly those bands only lasted a few months.

One of them were "In Different Confusions", which existed from spring 1989 to summer 1990. They approached me to play the synthesizer and operate the drum computer.

We were soon offered the opportunity to play a gig in the local youth club "Szenario", located inside the local art high school i attended at this time. But we needed some advertising, to get enough people to the concert.

Since i was attending art school, it was my job to take care of the marketing materials. The bands flavour was merely Goth and Indie, so we opted for a design in simple black and white in typical Goth style and worn out look.

The design process was completely analogue, no computers, no software, just copiers and cut out letters from copies of Letraset books and final artwork on paper. Design and all marketing decisions were made together. My girlfriend was the photo model on the poster. We also did a dedicated photo shooting for marketing needs.

I did the final artwork for the poster and handled the process with the printshop. The bottom date sheet was printed separately and would be glued onto the poster when needed, so the poster could also be used for other events. I was also responsible for printing the inlays for the Compact Cassettes (sadly no final print has survived).
